This Quivering American

I admit it. The future of my beloved country is in question and I am worried. The events playing out both inside and outside of the United States were predicted when our nation was taking its first breaths.

We were warned of what would happen when we allowed our liberties to be taken. We were warned about letting a bank control the government. We were warned about allowing one man (or woman... but so far, it's been a man) to implement policies and declare war. We have been warned about globalization, the ever-growing power of the rich elite, and the subjugation of the middle and lower classes. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer, but it isn't just he POOR getting poorer, anymore. The middle class struggles to keep from sliding into the lower class.

I am not a fan of President Bush, but the election of President Obama did not make things better. It has made everything worse. He has tremendous nerve laying the responsibility of the entire debt crisis at the feet of Republicans and the former president. He was in perfect agreement with Bush on the bail-outs. How much did he and our representatives give away to big businesses that used the money to have parties and go on vacations? How has that helped the PEOPLE?

How much money has he spent through laws he has passed in an UNCONSTITUTIONAL manner -- pushing a "health care plan" that sounded like it would take care of the health care issues, but is really nothing but a way to control U.S. citizens. It may also be the financial straw that breaks the camel's back. When there IS NO MONEY, people can't BUY insurance! Don't even get me going on the idea of our government forcing its people to purchase goods and services and pay for programs they abhor.

Over and over, we've seen our president break campaign promises and take his own liberties with OUR liberties. In one way or another, whether through continuing war or funding for rich people and programs, our president has spent that non-existent money.  NOW, he wants to say it isn't "his fault"? He wants to pretend that he is being fair when the truth is, BOEHNER (and I choke on this) is the only one that makes any sense.

Well, it isn't ALL Obama's fault, but he shares the blame.

In a way, so do WE - WE who have continued to elect the same two parties with the same policies over and over... and over... We share the blame because we no longer remember what once made America great. Protests occur, but not on the scale that should be. We continue as Republicans or Democrats when both parties have done more harm than good for the last forty years.

As a current college student, I am afraid the interest rates on my college loans will make it impossible for me to pay back the money - and not just because of the extreme cost, but because I may not be able to find a job when I am finished with school. That isn't paranoia. That is a valid concern.

So, what should we do?

Concentrate on jobs and education. Teach people to fish, for goodness' sake! Stop taking away the rods on the right and handing out crumbs on the left. I am all for getting rid of welfare, but if people cannot pay for food and insurance because they cannot find a job that will cover those costs, where will we be without welfare?

I may be okay. You may be okay. Still, thousands upon thousands will NOT be "okay". How could that POSSIBLY be "okay"? Will our grandchildren be okay?

I admit it. I am more than anxious about the future. People wanted change and they got it. Most of us have experienced a change for the worse.  If "we the people" continue to mindlessly follow those with selfish interests, it won't matter which party we claim. Both sides  will lose.

The two party government is an illusion.

God help us all.
