This Empty Nester is Going Back to College

You are NEVER too old to go to college. As an empty nester returning to school once again, I don’t believe I have ever been so excited about anything in my life, short of getting married and having each of my three children, of course.  I have come to the conclusion that some people are even more suited for college at around the age of forty than they were when they were graduating from high school.

I have also learned that being an empty-nester is about much more than trying not to break into tears every time you think about your kids. Yes, of course I had HEARD things, but now, I’m actually there. Life around me has changed and I must change, too.

I spent the greater portion of my married life as a stay-at-home mom. I’ve worked outside the home here and there and have been working online for a couple of years, but for the most part, my job was being a home maker, a wife, and a mom.

I went to college and left college two times because the work interfered with my being there for my family. For me, it really was the wrong time to go to school.

I attended Kaplan online a few years ago and was thoroughly impressed with my experience there. The work was challenging, the interface was excellent, the professors were personable, and the communication was superb.

I had been going back and forth trying to decide on a major. Was I going to finish out my web development degree, pursue a degree in communications, major in liberal arts, or expand on my interest in internet marketing?  I am returning to Kaplan University in July to earn my Bachelors Degree in Information Technology with a Concentration in New Media/Internet Marketing.  It fits.
